Digital Competitions for 2008-2009

Preparing image files for SMCCC Digital Competition.

In order for your images to be displayed as you would expect it will be necessary to change several aspects of our competition.

1. The Class A category will now be Advanced.

2. The Class B category will now be Novice.

3. The Creative category will now be Altered.

4. The Theme category will remain Theme.

A specific name will be required in order that your pictures may be properly identified and displayed. Each picture MUST be named as follows;

First the category followed by a tilde, next photographers name followed by a tilde, last the picture name. So it should look like the below examples.

ClassA-JohnDoe-RedRoses.jpg

Advanced~John Doe~Red Roses

Novice~Jane doe~ducks in water

Theme~John doe~mailboxes

Altered~Billy bob~redneck truck

A Tilde ( ~ ) must be used in between the category and photographers name and in between the photographers name and the picture title.

The photo name can not be longer than 20 characters. This is just the photo name.

The projector that is currently being used by SMCCC has a native resolution of 1024 pixels x 768 pixels. The projector and the computer that will be used for competitions will operate in a RGB workspace.

Microsoft Power Point is the underlying software that will be used for the competition display.

As you prepare your image for competition, be sure that you are either working in a RGB workspace or that you convert your image before submission. Failure to have your image defined in the RGB workspace may result in incorrectly mapped colors when projected.

Images MUST be saved in a JPEG format for submission. Higher quality settings for the jpeg compression result in less potential degradation. Lower settings result in smaller files sizes for quicker transmission. Typically, quality settings between 8 and 12 yield very good results.

Competition image files may be submitted either electronically (preferred) or on any portable media storage device that can transfer pictures. In either case, your entries must be received no later than 11:59 PM on the Friday prior to the competition. Portable storage devices may be hand delivered to the Competition Director. Email submissions may be made by sending them to competition@smccc.org or smccc_competition@cattail.nu
